When it comes to decorating your child’s room, the walls offer a blank canvas for creativity. As much as we love a casual poster or framed family photos, it’s fun to try something new! Wall art is a great and inexpensive way to freshen up a bedroom, and an excellent way to reflect your child’s personality. Here are some of our favourite wall art ideas that are unique and enjoyable for kids and adults alike!
1. Bold Wallpaper That Tells a Story
This isn’t your grandmother’s wallpaper! Wallpaper has become a popular choice for children’s rooms in the past decade. It allows for a more personalized approach and adds both visual interest and texture, depending on your wallpaper choice. There is a wide range of wallpaper, from Batman to butterflies, and if you choose a peel-and-stick option, it’ll be easy to replace when your child’s tastes change. Or, add contrast by only covering one wall in wallpaper, and painting the rest in a coordinating colour.

2. Gallery Walls of Kids’ Own Art
Instead of confining your child’s artwork to the fridge, why not turn it into a gallery wall? Mix and match colourful frames, hang them in playful arrangements, and refresh the display as new masterpieces are created. I recommend using command hooks or a clothespin and string (avoid using magnets or other small objects with younger children). This not only celebrates your child’s creativity but also gives the room a dynamic, ever-changing look.

3. Framed Quotes to Inspire and Personalize
Framing quotes from favourite stories is an excellent way to encourage your child’s love of reading and improve literacy skills. You can find a wide variety of quote prints on Etsy, or even make your own. Be sure to use quality paper so that the quote is clear and legible! I love displaying quotes (and other prints!) in bright, colourful frames that are sure to catch the eye. I also love a framed print, which you can find in most home goods stores. It adds personality, while being easy to change with your child’s tastes.

4. In Room Chalkboard
Get creative with some chalkboard paint and chalk! This DIY is easy and perfect for all ages. Who doesn’t love drawing on the walls? Adding a chalkboard wall encourages your child to express their creative side, and can be used to write out daily schedules, tasks, and reminders. If you’re concerned about the potential mess, don’t worry! Chalk is an inexpensive and mess-free art material; any excess chalk dust can simply be wiped up. As a bonus, this DIY is also outdoors-friendly, so if you have leftover materials it’s simple to add another! We also love adding a whiteboard for an addition that requires less handiwork!

5. Floating Shelves
Save space and create a “floating” effect with these elegant floating shelves. Whether you choose a clear plexiglass option or opt for a colourful display shelf, these provide storage for books and trinkets. I love to provide a rotating library that’s featured on the shelves. This creates a sense of novelty, encourages interest in reading, and best of all, reduces clutter! Floating shelves are one of my favourite hacks for streamlining a room without adding more bulky furniture pieces.

6. Mix and Match for Maximum Impact
Don’t be afraid to combine these ideas and get creative! Pair a bold wallpaper with a framed quote that ties into the theme, or add a trio of meaningful prints to the wall. Hang kids’ art alongside a chalkboard section and create an in-room art studio. The key is to create a space that grows with your child and reflects their personality!
