Quick Dining Room Refresh
Our dining room refresh had been on my mind for quite some time, mostly because of the wall colour. I have been spending a lot of time in here every day as it has partially become my home office. The room has one teeny tiny window on the side of the house and the more time I spent in the space, the more it felt like a dungeon - okay maybe I'm being a little dramatic - but it definitely did not bring me any joy!
I am trying my best to be mindful of our budget because I have a tendency of getting bored with items in the house and replacing them. The easiest and most cost effective way to update the room was by painting it a brighter, fresher colour. I knew I wanted to go with white however, when choosing a white paint there are so many things to take into consideration. White paints have many different undertones. Some pull more yellow, some more blues, and it is very dependent of the lighting in the space. Because our room has little to no natural light I wanted a true white which is why I chose Chantilly Lace. It is a stark bright white however, in our space it still adds a sense of warmth and sophistication which I adore!
Thanks to Green Friendly Paint from DuRock I was able to paint our dining room with a high quality green friendly paint. Because I went from grey to white, I did take the time to prime the walls first which I highly recommend if you are going from a darker colour to a lighter colour.

I would love to switch out some of the accessories, but it is not necessary at this point so I am just going to shop my own home for the mean time and move things around to make it feel new without spending a cent. I will be ordering new curtains when the ones I want come back in stock and will be adding a matte black curtain rod. I would love a rug for this space as well, but rugs are hella expensive right now so it is on the wish list for a later date. My favourite purchase that I made though are the wall sconces!!! I originally had glass candle holder ones but one was knocked off of the wall and broke. I wanted something that was easy to install and not hardwired ...

I found these wall sconces and guess what .... they come with battery operated light bulbs that are rechargeable!!! They also come with these little remote controls that turns both of them on at the same time. Best purchase ever!
A few other questions I received over the past week included:
- the faux olive tree is from Costco online
- the chair cushions are from Homsense a few years ago
- the large painting is from Pier1 a few years ago
- the dining chairs are a mix of Structube and Homesense
- the table was custom built by a carpenter about 6 years ago
Overall, I am so happy that I decided to paint the room. It feels new, fresh, bright, and airy which all bring me joy :)
Let me know what you think!
with love,
Vanessa
